Global bifurcation destroying the experimental torus T2.

چکیده
We show experimentally the scenario of a two-frequency torus T2 breakdown, in which a global bifurcation occurs due to the collision of a torus with an unstable periodic orbit, creating a heteroclinic saddle connection, followed by an intermittent behavior.

Local and Global bifurcations in Three-Dimensional, Continuous, Piecewise Smooth Maps
In this work, we study the dynamics of a three-dimensional, continuous, piecewise smooth map. Much of the nontrivial dynamics of this map occur when its fixed point or periodic orbit hits the switching manifold resulting in the so-called border collision bifurcation. We study the local and global bifurcation phenomena resulting from such borderline collisions. The conditions for the occurrence ...
متن کاملSymmetry-breaking Hopf bifurcations to 1-, 2-, and 3-tori in small-aspect-ratio counterrotating Taylor-Couette flow.
The nonlinear dynamics of Taylor-Couette flow in a small-aspect-ratio wide-gap annulus in the counterrotating regime is investigated by solving the full three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. The system is invariant under arbitrary rotations about the axis, reflection about the annulus midplane, and time translations. A systematic investigation is presented both in terms of the flow physics...
متن کاملBorder collision route to quasiperiodicity: Numerical investigation and experimental confirmation.
Numerical studies of higher-dimensional piecewise-smooth systems have recently shown how a torus can arise from a periodic cycle through a special type of border-collision bifurcation. The present article investigates this new route to quasiperiodicity in the two-dimensional piecewise-linear normal form map. We have obtained the chart of the dynamical modes for this map and showed that border-c...
متن کاملBifurcation of synchronous oscillations into torus in a system of two reciprocally inhibitory silicon neurons: experimental observation and modeling.
Oscillatory activity in the central nervous system is associated with various functions, like motor control, memory formation, binding, and attention. Quasiperiodic oscillations are rarely discussed in the neurophysiological literature yet they may play a role in the nervous system both during normal function and disease. Here we use a physical system and a model to explore scenarios for how qu...
متن کاملResonance and Bifurcation of Higher-dimensional Tori
By means of an example it is shown that a supercritical bifurcation of an invariant 2-torus into an invariant 3-torus prevailing in the case of nonresonance may be replaced by a transcritical bifurcation into a pinched invariant 3-torus in the case of resonance. The connections of these bifurcation phenomena with the properties of the spectrum of the underlying invariant 2-torus are discussed. ...
